Vanity Beach - Nights Of The New [D1 Music]

On a message board such as D1, surrounded by Orgy fans, it's not hard to understand why Vanity Beach became a popular contender for the 2nd FFA BOTB. I was immediately hooked, and obsessively grabbed the three mp3's offered from their site. Later on, CDBaby delivered, and I am now the proud owner of my own copy of Vanity Beach's Nights of the New.

My only complaint is that the CD is too short! I want more! After a breif musical introduction, the band slams into "Fight Through the Night", "The Synthetic", and "The Knight Murders" in rapid-fire succession. All three of these songs are available for listening on their mp3.com site. After the haunting interlude "An Ending", the band launches into round two with "Girls on TV", "711", and "The Massive", which are equally as powerful as the first three better-known songs. The CD concludes with the darker sentiments of "Tonight" and "2002".

I was immediately struck by the song Vanity Beach submitted to the D1 FFA BOTB, "The Knight Murders". With the Jay Gorden-esque voice, strong synth lines, and the floating harmony of The Birthday Massacre's Chibi providing guest vocals, the song is truly a masterpeice of texture and variance. But equally as striking are the effects of "711" or the power of "The Synthetic". Vanity Beach has excelled in creating a style of music all their own, while effectively not falling into the sin of boredom.

Suggested Listening:
"Fight Through the Night"
"The Knight Murders"
"711"
