The Anix - Play, Dance, Repeat

After being one of the lucky few to pick up the last album by this band, I was anxious to hear this non-traditional re-release of sorts; Play, Dance, Repeat is an album with both new tunes and redone favorites from An Illusion of Time.PDR was not exactly what I was expecting. AIOT had been the very essence of synth rock, so I suppose I was looking to hear more of the same. But The Anix seems to have taken a new approach, making it, well, more synth and less rock. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Once I got over the initial shock of the newer sound, I really got into the album. I have to say that “Play, Dance, Repeat” was the perfect title for the album, as each song has a fun, driving, up-beat dance tempo. It’s definitely a ‘feel good’ album, perfect for an energy boost.
A lot of the original songs from AIOT are even better than before, and the newer tracks are just as good of quality as you would expect from The Anix. My only real complaint is that several tracks, such as “It’s Not The Same”, in the band’s effort to liven them up, have this cheesy midi drum clap in them. With such good sound and remixing in every other aspect of this album, I wonder how such a cheap sound got added? Maybe I’m too critical, but "It's Not The Same" was one of my favorite songs, and this new version just ruined it for me. But, with all the other brilliant songs on this album, I got over it!
